Fractions Calculator
Add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions, with the answer simplified.
How it works
Enter two fractions and pick an operation. To add or subtract, the fractions are put over a common denominator. To multiply, tops and bottoms are multiplied. To divide, the second fraction is flipped. The result is reduced by the greatest common divisor.
Worked example
Subtract 1/3 from 3/4. Enter 3 over 4, choose subtract, then 1 over 3. The calculator converts both to twelfths: 9/12 − 4/12 = 5/12, which is 0.416667 as a decimal.
Tips
- Whole numbers can be entered as fractions over 1, for example 2 is 2/1.
- To add mixed numbers like 1 1/2, enter it as 3/2 (1×2+1 over 2).
- Dividing by a fraction is the same as multiplying by its flip.
